Diploma Courses
It has been established that there is a greater demand for skilled manpower rather than for managers as per the surveys conducted to assess the requirement of trained manpower for the hospitality sector. All the hospitality organizations be it a hotel, restaurant, fast food outlet, resort, railways, airlines, cruise liners and other allied industries, require trained personnel to man their operations.
To meet the demand of the hospitality sectors, we have introduced from this academic year 2019-2020 the following Diploma courses.
1. Diplomas in Food production
2. Diploma in Food and Beverage Service
3. Diploma in Housekeeping operation
The examinations will be conducted and the Diploma will be awarded by The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology.
These Diploma courses are open to 12th pass students of +2 system who must have studied English language as one of the subjects. The Course duration is for 36 weeks followed by 24 weeks of Industrial Training.
Currently the courses are offered under annual examination system comprising term end examinations at end of the year. Mid-term examinations comprising theory and practical are conducted are also conducted.
Each diploma program equips students in the basic areas of specialization and we provide hands on training to students in the institute kitchens and laboratories.

The National Council for Hotel Management and the Indira Gandhi National Open University offer the Bachelor of Science program in Hospitality and Hotel Administration jointly. The Three-Year program equips students with all the required skills, knowledge and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the Hospitality Sector. The program also involves in-depth laboratory work for students to acquire required knowledge and skills standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office Operation and Housekeeping. It also imparts substantial management inputs in area such as Sales and Marketing, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Hotel and Catering Law, Property Management, Entrepreneurship Development, Computer skills with special focus on Tourism Studies.
The National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology centrally regulates admissions to B.Sc Hospitality & Hotel Administration Program by conducting Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in the month of April.

The minimum qualification for admission is 10+2 system of Senior Secondary Education or its equivalent with English as one of the compulsory subject.
Age limit is 22 years for General / PH and 25 years for SC / ST candidates as on 1st July. In the case of Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe candidates, upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years.
Candidates appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can appear in JEE for being considered on provisional basis. Provisional admissions will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted to the concerned Institute.
Admission will be subjected to verification of facts from the original certificates / documents produced by the candidates. Decision of NCHM&CT regarding the eligibility shall be final. Even after the admission to the Institute if an applicant is found ineligible on account of supplying false information of false testimonials or for having suppressed any material information, his / her admission will be cancelled.
Attendance Requirements:
All candidates admitted to different courses will be required to put in a minimum of 75% attendance during the academic session. Those who fail to secure 75% attendance shall be debarred from appearing in the annual examinations to be conducted by the National Council. Principal of the institute is empowered to condone up to 10% of absence on medical grounds. Such requests should, however, be accompanied by medical certificate issued by any registered medical practitioner.
Assessment Parameters / Awards of Degree
Candidates admitted to the 3 year B.Sc. Program will have to undergo 3 assessment tests for theory and 7 assessment test for the practical for the award of Mid term marks which carries 30% weight age in each semester. In addition to this they will have to pass the semester ending examination as per the Examination rules of Council. In order to be eligible to obtain a degree, a student will have to pass the five courses of IGNOU during his/her three years of study for which separate counseling sessions will be held in the Institute.
For Detained and Failed Candidates:
Detained candidates will be re-admitted to the subsequent academic session as repeaters on payment of full fees. Candidates who fail in the annual examination will have the discretion to appear in the subsequent annual examination either as a regular candidate after paying the full fees or appear therein as external candidate on payment of the examination fees only.
1 | Students are required to maintain strict discipline in the campus. Smoking is prohibited. Consumption of alcohol or drugs during the course of study is an offence. |
2 | Conduct of the students in their classes as well as in the premises of the institute shall be such as will not cause any disturbance to the fellow students or to other classes. Principal may expel a student whose work or conduct is not satisfactory and the fee paid will be forfeited. |
3 | Students must not loiter about the institute premises while the classes are on |
4 | Students shall do nothing inside/outside of the institute that may in any way interfere the administration, discipline and studies. |
5 | Students are expected to take proper care of the institute’s property and to help in keeping the premises neat and tidy. Any damage done to property of the institute by disfiguring wall, rooms, fittings or breaking furniture etc. is breach of discipline and are liable to punishment and recover of loss. |
6 | If for any reason the continuance of a student in the institute is in the opinion of the Principal, which shall be final, detrimental to the best interest of the institute, the Principal may ask such student to leave the institute without giving reason for his decision. |
7 | Non-compliance of the rules of the institute can also be dealt with by means of suitable fines and disciplinary action. |
8 | Candidates are not allowed any part time job, or any other course of education along with the training. Defaulter shall be terminated with the sole discretion of the Principal. |
9 | Institute cannot accept any liability in respect of any accident a student may sustain while engaged in practical work due to any reason. |
10 | Students should instruct their friends / relatives not to call them on the office telephone. The students are also prohibited to use the office telephone. |
11 | Parents / guardians are required to obtain progress report of their ward in the first week of every month, on any working day. |

Fees
Fees payable for the academic session will be displayed on the Student Notice Board. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that his/her fees are remitted on time.
All fees and dues payable must be remitted to the office on or before the stipulated dates, failing which fines will be levied and the student may not be permitted to attend classes or appear for examinations. Fees paid are not refundable.
Fee Remittance Schedule:
First Semester: on or before the first day of the academic session.
Second Semester: on or before the first day of the semester
Note:- No individual communication will be sent to parents regarding fee payment.
Hostel Fees:
Fees payable for the academic session will be displayed on the student Notice Board. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that his/her fees are remitted on time.
No student will allowed to stay in the Hostel without paying the hostel fees.
Fee Payment Mode:

Demand Draft: to be drawn in favour of "The Principal, SIHM, Kozhikode" only.
Obtain Hostel Admission: Hostel accommodation is provided by the Institute on a first come-first serve basis. The decision of the Institute authorities as regards allotment of hostel shall be final. Application forms may be obtained from the Administrative Office.
Obtain a Bonafide Certificate Etc.
Request is to be made in the prescribed format avail-able with the Academic Clerk. The requests are to be submitted during the morning tea break.
Obtain a KSRTC Concession
Student (except hostelites) are entitled to a concession. Students desirous of availing of the concession must submit a written request to the Academic Clerk in the prescribed format. Formats are available with the Academic Clerk.
The request for concession is to be made within two working weeks from the joining date. The students will be informed through a notice displayed on the notice board of the submission of the request forms to the KSRTC Office. Students are requested to follow up at the KSRTC Office with the Student Identity Card.
Obtain an Education Loan
Several nationalized banks also offer educational loans for students undergoing the three year degree program.
Students intending to avail of educational loans from banks can obtain the necessary documentation such as a bonafide certificate, fee structure from the Academic Clerk on a written request to the Institute.
Scholarships, grants if and when provided will be given only if the student satisfies attendance requirement, shows good conduct and progress in studies. Proficiency prizes will be distributed every year, during the annual day celebrations, for various aspects, both curricular and cocurricular.
